$4+ a gallon!

Published by at 6:36 am under General

Whew! $5/gallon isn’t far behind. But why am I not worried? Because my CRX gets 34mpg easy! even with spirited driving. If I drive like an old man, I’m guessing I can probably hit 36+mpg daily.

Now, try to name a car that is as fun to drive and yet as frugal as this…

You must have a sportier version and have a heavy foot to only be getting 34-36 mpg. That isn’t anything to write home about. :-) That would be like a gas hog to me. My 84 CRX with the 1.3 engine always gets me over 50 mpg in the city. One time I really babied it, and it got me 63 in the city. On the highway, I’ve gotten as much as 69.4 mpg but that was driving it 55 mph. If I drive 70 mph on the highway it drops off to about 53-55 mpg. Strong headwinds would drop me more. This simple car truly set records like no other when it came to fuel efficiency and it did it without the heavy batteries and the complexities and expense of today’s hybrids. It was truly ahead of its time.

    Nice!
Yes, a stock HF or DX(base) would give you those MPG. Mine is an Si and with 1.6 Integra motor in it, it’s significantly heavier. And yes it’s amazing how these cars are so simple yet so fuel efficient. Not to mention they did this in the 80s. I totally have a deep respect for these cars.
